Policevet's Legacy Project is a grass roots campaign to chronicle the men and women of American Law Enforcement.

Most that have served have been denied recognition. Few rest in graves marking their contributions to a lawful society. Those that have died in the line of duty fair much better in the American conscious than those that suffer career ending injuries. Regardless of how they were mustered out of their service they deserve a footnote in America's history.

Memorials have been created by state and national groups. Many of them have removed the tributes far from the hearts and minds of the communities that they served and the people that loved them. Too many of the memorials simply tell a very small but important part of the law enforcement story. They honor those that have meet the governments criteria of Line of Duty Death. Almost all ignore those that have suffered career ending injuries only to died out of the public tribute limelight.

The sad fact is that many have died at their own hand. Others have languished in total disability barely able to meet their needs for food, shelter and adequate medical attention. The lucky of this bunch got off the job with a pension, but few disabled cops will ever see an officers funeral or any tribute at all.

Many law enforcement officers live to retire in reasonable health and prosperity. A lot of cops get off the job without their families knowing who they were professionally, nor with the community knowing the person beyond the shield.

The Policevet's Legacy Project will undertake an effort to bring the names and memories to their communities through "The Streets" project. We'll activate family, peers and communities to honor as a memorial those that have died or suffered career ending disability by naming streets as a memorial to their service.

The Policevet's Legacy Project will also serve as a repository of reflections on the men and women who have and do serve America as a law enforcement officer.

The Streets is a grass roots campaign to memorialize, remember and honor the men and women of law enforcement who died or were disabled in the performance of their duty.

The Policevets Legacy Project asks you to have streets in your community named for the policevets that gave so much to keep them safe. We urge you to champion this cause in your hometown. In America, We have an identity crisis. Chicago is planning on naming a street after a radical member Fred Hampton Sr. of the cop killing Black Panthers.
